Stony Creek Swim Center
Because swimming is not only fun... It's a necessity!
Who we are and what we do

Stony Creek Swim Center is a family owned business that began in April of 1989. Dan and Shari Gipson and her parents, Gary and Evelyn Byers, built the current facility located in the Stony Creek Business Park at 146th Street and State Road 37. Shari and Dan have five children who have all contributed to the success of the business and are currently involved in the daily aspects of the business.

SCSC has long been recognized as the area’s leader for swimming instruction. With our two-pool design, we offer programs ranging from infants and toddlers to adult learn-to-swim. Our warm, shallow water and small class size encourages parents to enroll their children at a young age. Through our atmosphere of caring and positive reinforcement, students develop the self-confidence and skills they need to succeed both in and out of the water. We believe that it is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children can swim. Our goal is to provide quality instruction and assist parents in creating life-long swimmers.

 Our Mission Statement

Stony Creek Swim Center’s mission is to enhance children’s natural ability to swim and play through a discovery oriented process. Effective instruction is combined with a safe, comfortable environment to help swimmers become happy, healthy, responsible children.

 Our Core values

  1. Respect- We promise to respect our swim families, our co-workers, our company, and ourselves.
  2. Commitment- We will provide the best experience we possibly can to every person we serve.
  3. Growth- We will take the steps necessary to grow both personally and professionally.
  4. Safety- We will strive to make sure that every swimmer who enters our program feels safe and comfortable.
  5. Willingness- We will do whatever it takes to achieve our primary goal of creating life-long swimmers.
  6. Teamwork- We will set egos aside in favor of working together to create harmony and achieve success.

 Our Program

Stony Creek Swim Center is a member of the United States Swim School Association. This is a group of similar schools across the country who are devoted to aquatic education for life-long safety, fun, and health. Several times throughout the year our senior management attends conferences where we learn the latest developments on aquatic education. We believe that there are several key components required to create successful swimmers:
  • Small class sizes
  • Comfortable water
  • An environment that is conducive to learning
  • Well-educated and compassionate instructors
  • Dedication to aquatic education
These five components are what make up our program and they are what make us different from all other programs in the area. While other facilities might offer swimming lessons as one of their programs, this is all we do. Our career and passion is aquatic education and we do everything we can to continue to grow and educate ourselves in our trade. We encourage communication between our parents and staff, and feel that parents are experts on their children and ask that your share that knowledge with your instructor.

We encourage parents to speak to the office if they are concerned with their child's class. We want to make this the best experience possible for you and your family, but we can only do this if we are aware of what is going on in the class.

 Our instructors

At Stony Creek Swim Center, we pride ourselves on having the best instructors. All of our employees go through a three-step interview process to make sure they are exactly what we are looking for. Instructors complete a rigorous training program, which includes observing senior instructors, hands-on training, and evaluations, before being given their own classes. All employees participate in regular on-going training to help them become the best swim instructors possible. This training spans a wide range of skills, from stroke technique to working with fearful students, and is based on the latest developments in aquatic education. Our infant instructors have all completed the United States Swim School Association Infant/Toddler Program and continually educate themselves on new techniques, research, and methods. If at any time you feel your instructor is not providing you with the best lesson possible, please come to the office and we will address the issue immediately. We are constantly striving to improve and the only way to accomplish that is by working with our clients and receiving feedback. If you are unhappy with a lesson, please do not leave without talking to a staff member. We want you to have the best experience possible!

You are welcome to come in and observe our classes at any time. Call our office to set up a visit!
